Mogul skiing stars capture the maximum winter sports awards

Dale Begg-Smith is the Ski and Snowboard Australia Snowsports Athlete of the Year 2004/05. The annual awards were announced at a gala dinner at the Hotel Sofitel, Melbourne, on Saturday 30 April.

The competition for the award of the first night was very tight, with Begg-Smith and aerials skier Lydia Ierodiaconou – both rated number two in the world – the main contenders.
In the end the prize went to 20 years old, Begg-Smith, that corridor and to finish in the World Cup last season also claimed a bronze medal at the world championships.

He had started the season ranked 18 in the world, with only 13 World Cup events under his belt, so his rise to world number two has been one of the fastest in the history of sport.

Ierodiaconou won the Outstanding Achievement Year for his back to back gold medals at Mt Buller in September.

Halfpipe snowboarding star Torah Bright won the Junior Athlete of the Year, while href = "http://www.searchspot.org/"> Dale Begg-Smith coach Steve Desovich was named Coach of the Year.

Media Award in the category, Herald Sun photographer Trevor Pinder won the Best Picture of the Year for his action shots of Ierodiaconou at Mt Buller.

The Electronic Media Award went to the Seven Network for its coverage of the Mt Buller World Cup.and the print media award was picked up by Daily Telegraph journalist Arthur Stanley.

He Main event was the Hon Rod Kemp, Minister for the Arts and Sport. The awards were presented by Mark Adams, Mark Adams Real Estate, Sharry Leanne T-Board Australia, Secretary General of the Australian Olympic Committee Craig Phillips, president of the OWI Geoff Henke and Ian Johnson Seven Network.
