Notre Dame and his rival USC has a long history
It's rival college football that is between the University of Notre Dame and the University of Southern California and is one of its most publicized, sensational in the history of football. Notre Dame Fighting Irish and USC Trojans have had a long history of rival games since 1926. The trophy is the Jeweled Shillelagh and current champions are USC, but that does not mean that there will be between the two rivals. These two teams are considered part of the elite more when it comes to football. Both Fighting Irish and the Trojans have won 11 national championships and 7 Heisman trophies so both teams must be taken into account.
Even back at the beginning of this rivalry was considered one of the most important in college football. Sometimes referred to as the greatest rivalry between the audience, often because the winner has continued to play for the national title in college football.
Among the Irish struggle and the Trojans, schools have won 22 national titles, 14 Heisman Trophy winners and a total of 21 for all Americans, NFL Hall of Fame and School Football Hall of Fame. This rivalry has also won acclaim as half of the top ten games to see college football in the history of television. So how this rivalry started back in 1926? College football historian Murray Sperber says that the rivalry began on grounds political and financial. The most popular story, however, is that the USC was on the hunt for a national rival to talks between Notre Dame coach Knute Rockne and director USC athletic Gywnn Wilson and his wife is how the rivalry came to be.
The games have been played in Los Angeles, Chicago and South Bend. Notre Dame has done rivalries against Michigan, Michigan State, Navy and Purdue, in addition to USC. Heismann Trophy winners include Angelo Bertelli, Johnny Lujack Leon Hart, Johnny Lattner, Paul Hornung, John Huarte and Tim Brown. The eleven years since Notre Dame has won the National Championship are 1924, 1929, 1930, 1943, 1946, 1947, 1949, 1966, 1973, 1977 and 1988.

And although the team has never played on Christmas Day, in the movie Die Hard, a security guard is watching a game between the two rivals. Perhaps part of what has kept this rivalry so fascinating to fans of both sides is that there have been five games where there was a tie (1936, 1948, 1968, 1969 and 1994).
Notre Dame has the lead now with 42 wins over USC, which has 34 to his credit. USC took the Jeweled Shillelagh after party until 2009, but Notre Dame leads the series 42-34-5, but USC has won since 2002. Notre Dame holds the longest winning streak, but with 11 in a row 1983-1993. Despite this rivalry seems almost ancient, there are really only played 81 games between these two great teams. The statistics are also relatively close, giving ample credit to how this rivalry has survived through the years.
